Preface
Effective communication in today’s interconnected world requires attending to the wide variety of cultural perspectives that are found all around us. By becoming sensitive to how people from different cultures see things, we are more likely to avoid misunderstandings and to better appreciate what makes us similar to and different from one another. The purpose of this textbook is to help language learners investigate and discuss cultural issues, and to develop a heightened awareness of the role that culture plays in daily life.
Each unit contains the following features: •Cross Cultural Issues: Through this book learners build up culture awareness, culture competence and understanding different cultures.
•Warm-up: These exercises begin to bring learners with the context of each unit.
•Vocabulary: Key terms and vocabulary are introduced and learners are made to familiarize with the subject matter to come.
•Conversation: Conversation exercises are introduced based on real life situations and give you everything you need in everyday conversation.
•Listening: These listening exercises are introduced to stress withholding of key points of each unit.
•Reading: The text introduces learners to more up-dated information related to the topic of each unit.
•Wrap-up: Wrapping up each unit is a variety of exercises. Learners will implement what they have learned through diversity practice.
