Meet the Artist: Piet Mondrian

Award-winning illustrator and graphic designer Marie Doerfler invites children to Meet the Artist: Piet Mondrian and step into the bold and geometric world of the artist.

Get to know Piet Mondrian--one of the first abstract artists--and his bold and geometric style, and discover a whole new universe brimming with ideas! Inside, children will learn about Mondrian’s grid and what it meant to him through exercises in finger painting, collage, and symmetry.

Filled with activities, readers can get in touch with nature on a journey across the flower markets of Amsterdam, design their own abstract magazine, choreograph a Mondrian-inspired dance routine, and make a DIY kaleidoscope!

Marie Doerfler is an award-winning illustrator and graphic designer. She studied communication and graphic design at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and Falmouth University in the UK, and then illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. In 2021, she received the World Illustration Award in the Advertising Young Talent category and was on the 2021 finalist shortlist for the Illustrators Exhibition in Bologna. She currently lives and works in Regensburg and Vienna. This is her debut children’s activity book.
