韓德爾：彌賽亞 / 賈第納、英國巴洛克獨奏家合奏團

這份1982年的錄音是英國指揮家賈第納在成名之初所灌錄，1978年賈第納創立英國巴洛克獨奏家古樂團時才二十五歲。而古樂團的前身，則是更早在他二十三歲時所創立的蒙台威爾第合唱團。

年輕時主修阿拉伯語的賈第納，因為家學淵源而對音樂抱持強烈的興趣，在二十八歲時即指揮生平第一場《魔笛》的歌劇演出。在將蒙台威爾第合唱團擴編為蒙台威爾第管弦樂團之後，於1977年開始指揮演出韓德爾的歌劇，並於隔年將該團更名為英國巴洛克獨奏家古樂團，開始採用古樂器演出，從此逐漸在西歐古樂圈闖出名號，且很快就於1983年受聘為法國里昂國家歌劇院的音樂總監，本錄音就是在他受聘前一年灌錄的。

賈第納的古樂演出在當時就已經顯示特定的走向：折衷路線。即使在那個古樂特別蓬勃的時代，他們的音色仍大方展現出現代樂團的強烈影響，不像其他古樂團所標榜的強調獨奏樂器及遊走偏鋒的斷句與運弓。

賈第納的《彌賽亞》只讓我們稍稍嗅到古樂團的作風，在總奏音色和速度取向上還是朝傳統處理方式靠攏，就連獨唱者也不刻意採用古樂唱腔，僅有假聲男高音邁可．錢斯的演唱標榜了不同的作風。而在合唱的部分，更受到英國傳統合唱團強調整體揉合音色的影響，這也間接促成這份錄音能走出古樂限制，得到更多愛樂者的青睞。
