The idea for this book began when I took a poetry class at Portland State University in the summer of 2019, in which I wrote a parody of Walt Whitman’s "O Captain! My Captain" titled, "O Donut! My Donut!" When I read the poem aloud to the class, someone shouted, "You should totally publish that!" So I did, along with several other parodies of the poetry of Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and others, as well as poems wholly of my own creation, such as "Prayer To The Chicken Gods." Included in the book also are recipes for salsa and chilaquiles as well as a parody of Rudyard Kipling’s "If," titled, "Spanglish."
