　　1792年，曾為奴隸的Benjamin Honey與其愛爾蘭裔妻子Patience，在緬因州外海一處離島，發現兩人得以棲身之處。一個多世紀之後，Honey的後代在此開枝散葉，與島上的各種族群相處融洽，雖然整座島嶼生活貧困、常常挨餓，但與世隔絕的一方天地，讓他們得以避開海岸另一側大陸上虎視眈眈的敵意。
 
　　然而就在1912年的夏日，一位打著要來『教育』島上居民美名的傳教士，帶著其深根蒂固的偏見，破壞了此地原有的平衡。此舉引發相關政府的注意，當局欲以『優生學』的口號，這個所謂的『主流趨勢』，將島上居民通通趕出小島，好讓他們將此處開發成一個世外桃源的度假勝地。於是這批原就被大陸社會所拋棄的人們，又再次被剝奪他們僅有的避風港，他們是否能另尋到屬於自己的諾亞方舟呢？
