About the Artist: From his studio and picture framing shop in Sylvania, Ohio, Michael Calandra works mostly with an airbrush, colored pencils and acrylic paints, primarily in the fantasy and tarot genres. His art has appeared on the cover of Heavy Metal Magazine four times. He was profiled in Art Scene International, Visual Arts Illustrated Magazine, and three times as cover art/tutorials for Airbrush Step by Step Magazine. He has created trading and game card art for Fantasy Flight Games, Night of the Living Dead, The Lon Chaney Legacy, U.S. Games Systems, Inc. and 78 Tarot collaborative decks. He is also a licensed artist for Image Ten, Inc, parent company of Night of the Living Dead. He believes that art should be a journey. "You should experiment with not only different techniques and media, but also subject matter. Your interests and experiences evolve over time, so your art should reflect that growth." When not painting, Michael teaches martial arts at his school. He began studying and teaching Taekwondo and Shotokan karate in the late 70s and holds the rank of 5th degree black belt. He enjoys running and walking with his family in the local parks and often travels to the Great Smoky Mountains to hike. He and his wife Angela have two adult children and (currently) two grandchildren.
