Laura Oleaga became EDiR Scientific Director of the European Board of Radiology (EBR) in 2018. She attended the School of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, and completed her radiology training at the Hospital Donostia in San Sebastian. Following her graduation, she trained as a Research Fellow in Magnetic Resonance Imaging at the Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania, USA, and subsequently completed her PhD at the University of the Basque Country. In 2009, she was appointed Chair of the Radiology Department of the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, where she had previously worked as a neuroradiologist. She continues to work as a neuroradiologist at the diagnostic imaging center (CDI) of the Hospital Clínic and is currently the director of the CORELAB at the Barcelona Clinic Coordinating Center (BCCC).
She has served as a Professor of Radiology at the University of Barcelona and has been involved in many research projects. Her main scientific interests lie in the fields of Neuroradiology and Head and Neck Imaging, and her research focuses on clinical applications of imaging. Prof. Oleaga has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and nine book chapters. Additionally, she is an active educator at many prestigious universities, scientific meetings and courses, as well as an active member of many scientific societies and organizations. From 2002 to 2006, she served as Vice-President of the Spanish Radiological Society (SERAM), and from 2006 to 2008 as Chair of the Scientific Committee of SERAM. From 2015 to 2018, she was Chair of the Education Committee of the European Society of Radiology (ESR).
Süha S. Özbek
Süha Süreyya Özbek, MD, was appointed to the member of the Standards Committee of the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) in 2019, in which he has been working as the chairperson since 2021.
After his graduation from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine (Izmir, Turkey) in 1985, he completed training in radiology in the Ankara University in 1991. In 1992 he started to work in the Department of Radiology in the Ege University first as a staff radiologist, then as a faculty member until his retirement as a professor in September 2023.
During his professional career in the Ege University, Dr Özbek was mainly interested in clinical applications of multiparametric ultrasound in various organ systems. He was the director of the ultrasound unit for nearly 15 years during which he also chaired the radiology department between 2014 and 2020. In addition to the national academic works, he authored or co-authored in more than 60 international peer-reviewed scientific journals mostly related to ultrasonography. In conjunction with these activities, Dr Özbek took part in the Society of Medical Ultrasonography (Turkey) since early 2000s in which he chaired the society between 2008 and 2012. He is currently an active member and lecturer in the training courses of this society as well as at the scientific meetings of the European Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB).
Dr. Özbek was also deeply interested in professional training which led him to take part in the relevant committees of the Ege University related to the undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. In parallel with these activities, he took role in the Turkish Board of Radiology (TBR) since 2002, where he served as the chairpersons of the TBR Executive Council (2008-2014), as well as the TBR Examination Committee (2002-2008) and TBR Training Assessment Committee (2017-2023).
