In a captivating tale of perseverance and discovery, Co. Down man Gerry O’Boyle has completed an extraordinary 1,745-kilometre trek along the Connacht coastline taking in the counties of Sligo, Mayo and Galway (and not forgetting the 5km of coastline in Co. Leitrim). From February 2020 to September 2023, Gerry’s epic adventure took him through diverse landscapes where every harbour, beach, peninsula and coastal nook and cranny of Connacht was included.
The aim of Gerry’s ambitious mission was simple yet profound - to raise funds and awareness for the Rosedale Special School. Chronicled through detailed blogs and maps, Gerry’s story is one of resilience, friendship, and giving back that has inspired readers and fellow adventurers alike.Gerry’s experience was far from easy. Along the way, he faced daunting challenges, from extreme weather conditions such as blistering sunshine, torrential rain, and howling winds, to wrong turns and learning curves that tested his perseverance and humility. Despite the physical and mental toll, Gerry pushed beyond his limits, motivated by his cause and the support of loyal companions who joined him on memorable runs across the stunning Irish terrain.Gerry recalls many scary moments, sharing stories of his arduous path and the valuable lessons learned from every kilometre covered.
