再將這些動詞代換進原先的句子裡:

I am running.
I am eating.
I am drinking.
I am thinking.
I am listening.
I am reading.
I am sleeping.
I am watching.
I am leaving.
I am coming.

做這個練習的時候,最好是用說的,而不是寫的。更重要的是,你必須自己產生這些句子,而不是看到答案之後,再一句一句的唸出來。如果你單單看那10個動詞,不用看整句答案,就在10秒鐘之內將這10個句子唸出來,那我們可以說,你已經熟悉了現在進行式的基本文法。

你現在不妨試試看,能不能將同樣的十個單字:

run, eat, drink, think, listen, read, sleep, watch, leave, come

套進下面這個句型:

We are writing.

然後自己說出相對應的10個句子。
 
熟悉各種變化
學打籃球的時候,你不會永遠站在同一個位置投籃吧?同樣的,當我們熟悉了最基本的現在進行式句型之後,也可以加入一些變化。如果我們想學過去進行式,就把之前的10個動詞,套用到下列的句型中:

She was shopping when I called her.

我們會得到下面這十個句子:

She was running when I called her.
She was eating when I called her.
She was drinking when I called her.
She was thinking when I called her.
She was listening when I called her.
She was reading when I called her.
She was sleeping when I called her.
She was watching when I called her.
She was leaving when I called her.
She was coming when I called her.

如果我們再將「She」換成「They」,那這些句子就變成了:

They were running when I called them.
They were eating when I called them.
They were drinking when I called them.
They were thinking when I called them.
They were listening when I called them.
They were reading when I called them.
They were sleeping when I called them.
They were watching when I called them.
They were leaving when I called them.
They were coming when I called them.

看起來很簡單吧?哈!慢著,如果你剛剛還是用「看」的方式來閱讀前面那些句子,那你的英語還是不會進步,這就像你躺在沙發上不能練好籃球一樣。再一次提醒你,你必須利用那10個單字替換的基本句型,自己產生這些變化出來的句子,而且你必須大聲的說出來,想辦法養成習慣,才能讓英文文法迅速進步。
